Philips Design & Research – Why Work For Us?

Philips Group innovation (PGI) encompasses Philips Research, Philips Innovation Services, Intellectual Property & Standards (IP&S), the Philips Innovation Campus, Healthcare Incubators as well as Philips Design. The group serves as the lifeblood of our innovation pipeline, aware of the current state of health & well-being solutions and defining what's next in a culture built on entrepreneurialism and open innovation.

Philips Group Innovation was founded in 1914, and is one of the world's largest corporate research organizations, employing about 5,000 professionals around the globe. Harnessing its relationships with institutes, academia and industrial partners, Philips Group Innovation leverages its company-wide synergies in technology, IP, research, design, shared competencies and laboratories to bring innovations to the market faster and more effectively.

Fun Facts about Philips Group Innovation:
•Philips’ IP portfolio consists of over 54,000 patent rights, 39,000 trademarks, 70,000 design rights and 4,400 domain name registrations.
•Philips is the recipient of numerous product design awards, including seven Product Innovation Awards from Architectural SSL Magazine, 18 red dot product design awards, and 39 iF design awards in 2012 alone.

What's the secret to delivering award-winning innovations year after year? Simply building them around the customer and fostering a spirit of open collaboration amongst the diverse group of people who are closest to that process.

Our multi-displinary approach to Research and Design is based on the preimse that innovation can never be consistently useful unless it is people-focused and research-based. We've adopted that same philosophy as an employer of the best Researchers, Designers, Intellectual Property consultants and Creative Directors in the industry. Evidenced through our unlimited incidental absence policy, a 1.5 times 401(k) match, and fitness and tuitions reimbursements, we've implemented unique perks and benefits to help our own people achieve a sense of well-being and security as they develop solutions that help others in the same way.

At the leading and sometimes bleeding edge of research, design and innovation, one thing's for sure... you'll be challenged and expected to challenge others in their thinking to arrive at an outcome that no one person could have ever dreamed of and executed alone.

The structure of PGI brings together diverse teams from a range disciplines, including Chemists, Electrical & Biomedical engineers, Physicists, Biologists, Computer Scientists, Physicians, Sociologists, Psychologist, Marketers, Researchers and Entrepreneurs to focus on a specific societal challenge and attack it with passion, dedication and creativity. Within that setting, your personal development is inevitable and your career development is just a few deliverables away.

When you walk on to the Philips Group Innovation team, you're entering a playing field that's going to make a profound difference in the world. It's up to you how quickly you rise to the challenges that come your way, what feats you'll accomplish, and what legacy you'll leave behind.

Under the Philips roof, your ideas, execution on them, and creative power will help transform the future of healthcare, improve sustainability around the world, and help others to live life with a greater sense of well-being and confidence. Now that's something worth putting on your resume!

Giang Vu's story is a perfect example... a Design Director for Philips Healthcare, Giang developed a love for photography while traveling frequently for work. Through his passion for telling a story through images, the idea for Philips Ambient Experience solution was born. Today, thousands of children receive better medical imaging treatment in a relaxed environment where 'going to the doctor' is more fun than scary. All because Giang was brave enough to use his own inspiration as a means to improve the lives of others

Innovation is at the heart and soul of Philips – it is vital to the strategy of the entire Philips organization as well as the individual businesses and industries in which we operate. Innovation is the lifeblood of our brand, and is the reason Philips has won in the market for over 120 years, is winning today, and will win even more in the future.

The work our PGI teams do deliver an unheard of calibre of innovation that changes people's lives - from morning to night, from birth to old age, and from hospital to home.  Take innovations like the Philips Heartstart AED Defibrilator which allows the average civilian to save a life in the case of sudden cardiac arrest. Or Philips school lighting solutions that organically increase energy levels in students after lunch or help focus them in the morning.  That's innovation that matters. And that's Philips.

I sent message to people of my Linkedin network to get the email of somebody in Philips. Few week later, I have been contacted by email by the design manager to set an interview. I talked with 2 persons, who were really nice and make me feel comfortable. It last around 30 to 40 minutes discussing about my portfolio and Philips design.
