I worked at Phillips de Pury & Company

The youthful environment was exactly what I wanted. Specialities in only contemporary really help focus this company on what's important. Work is work, but at least I enjoyed all the small tasks that are thrown in the mix.

This place is a little bit disorganized, but it depends on the department. Also, you'd think a new sales floor would have phones and internet that worked during an auction.

If creating a masterpiece is hard enough, ask Phillips, de Pury & Company how difficult it can be to sell one. Finding it hard to compete with auction giants Sotheby's and Christie's, the auction house has scaled back its operations. It has exited the impressionist and modern art market (traditionally the most lucrative area of art sales) almost entirely -- limiting its sales to American and contemporary art, design, jewelry, and photography.
