In addition to outside training, we often utilize our own subject matter experts for in-house training. By sharing our knowledge, we are able to work as a team to best serve our clients, while growing professionally and personally.
We have defined curricula for audit, tax, Plante Moran Financial Advisors, and management consulting that staff can access via our online learning management system. It serves as a one-stop location for staff to access individual training plans, register for training, manage continuing professional education, view archived trainings, and access performance management tools.
Before arriving at Plante Moran, you’ll be assigned a buddy who is there to help you acclimate to the firm and who will be there to serve as a career advocate.
Everyone has a team partner who is responsible for career coaching, planning, and performance evaluations. Partners take a high degree of responsibility for (and interest in!) their team members’ progression within the firm. When you think about how a person grows, it’s not just the training you receive; it’s also the experience you get.
Plante Moran’s Performance Management is a robust system where staff members select competencies and identify results measures to suit their individual and team goals. These goals are set annually, with regular check-ins to monitor progress and make adjustments. I have been working at Plante Moran (More than 5 years)
I have been part of the management consulting group for seven years. The group has been like family to me. There's a lot of variety to keep it interesting. While travel can be extensive, there is also opportunity to work remotely from home on occasion.
To advance, you are almost retooling yourself to be a salesperson. There does not appear to be a career path to advance for someone who enjoys working with clients and advancing technical skills.
Advice to Management
Upper management needs to recognize the value of sending seasoned professionals to clients and provide opportunities to advance those who have the ability to retain and expand client relationships through their expertise.
