We have a 'relatively jerk-free' policy here at Plante Moran, which provides us with a unique opportunity for teamwork, caring, and an unequaled culture. It makes us different. It makes us better. Message from Managing Partner, Gordon Krater
Thank you for taking the time to learn about Plante Moran. Those who get to know us recognize that there is no place quite like Plante Moran.
What differentiates our firm? We focus on people, our clients and our staff. We believe that our clients are the center of all we do and their satisfaction is our primary concern which is why we are focused on our staff. We strive to create an environment that the Partners and staff enjoy. As a result, our clients are served by people who enjoy what they do.
Clients who work with us quickly recognize that we are committed to their success, and they receive great service and solutions as a result. Expertise in each client’s industry, individualized attention, and client service team members who are committed to quality, integrity, and professionalism are key elements in how we serve each client.
Further, we are guided by the golden rule when we are dealing with both clients and staff. We treat our clients and staff like we would want to be treated. For clients, this means we do what we say we are going to do when we say we are going to do it. Clients don’t have to worry about surprises and will be well informed along the way.
For our people this philosophy of treating people the way we would like to be treated means we have a collaborative and nurturing work environment where people are given the opportunity to grow. We’re the only firm I’ve ever encountered to state that we are “relatively jerk-free.” Our culture is built upon specific core purpose, values, and principles that have served us for more than 85 years.
For the past 15 years, Plante Moran has been a one of FORTUNE magazine’s list of the '100 Best Companies to Work For' in America. We’ve also been cited by Human Resources Executive Magazine as one of the 18 best places to work for millennials. Our winning culture translates into strong staff retention, more efficient use of our client’s time and more opportunity for staff to collaborate on projects. All of these result in an unparalleled experience for our clients.
At Plante Moran, we are fully invested in your growth and success with various learning opportunities and mentoring relationships. Team partners and buddies are there for you at every step of the way, helping to pave your career path and providing the training and support you need to succeed.
In addition to outside training, we often utilize our own subject matter experts for in-house training. By sharing our knowledge, we are able to work as a team to best serve our clients, while growing professionally and personally.
We have defined curricula for audit, tax, Plante Moran Financial Advisors, and management consulting that staff can access via our online learning management system. It serves as a one-stop location for staff to access individual training plans, register for training, manage continuing professional education, view archived trainings, and access performance management tools.
Before arriving at Plante Moran, you’ll be assigned a buddy who is there to help you acclimate to the firm and who will be there to serve as a career advocate.
Everyone has a team partner who is responsible for career coaching, planning, and performance evaluations. Partners take a high degree of responsibility for (and interest in!) their team members’ progression within the firm. When you think about how a person grows, it’s not just the training you receive; it’s also the experience you get.
Plante Moran’s Performance Management is a robust system where staff members select competencies and identify results measures to suit their individual and team goals. These goals are set annually, with regular check-ins to monitor progress and make adjustments. Staff receive continuous feedback after each project, allowing for transparency in expectations and valuable feedback on day-to-day activities.
We work with friends. Life at Plante Moran isn’t just about doing the job, it’s about growing and developing personally as well as professionally. We want our staff to look forward to each and every day with the same enthusiasm as day one.
The most successful, and happy, individuals are those who master the work-life balance. At Plante Moran, we support staff members professionally and personally. We encourage everyone to find the balance that works for them.
It’s one thing to say you care, but it’s another to show it. Every year at Plante Moran, we support a charity at the local-office level through our Plante Moran Cares initiative. Staff members raise money through a variety of fundraising efforts and donate their time throughout their local communities. Additionally, through our Plante Moran Volunteer Network, staff are able to learn about more opportunities for community involvement.
Plante Moran’s goal is to achieve best-in-class attraction, retention, development, and advancement of women leaders in the accounting profession. Through the Women in Leadership initiative, our firm is increasing its focus on the resources, skills training, and support that will foster the continued success of women at the firm.
Plante Moran respects the power of having a variety of viewpoints, and that belief is continuously fostered through our diversity initiatives, which were formalized through the creation of a Diversity Council. We believe diversity creates strong, creative businesses that attract the best and brightest talent and are better positioned to proactively address the changing work environment.
We have long prided ourselves on being responsible corporate and community citizens, so it’s only natural we practice strong environmentally friendly and sustainable efforts. Our efforts include using efficient building designs, furnishings, and technology; establishing paper conservation and recycling programs; using remote access tools; and encouraging environmental awareness and waste reduction initiatives.

I applied online. The process took 6+ weeks – interviewed at Plante Moran.Interview Details
The interview process began with an on campus job fair where I was informed they only accept applicants with a 3.5/4 gpa. With lower than a 3.5 I was called back for an on campus interview with two interviewers. After that I was called back for an off campus interview at a location about 40 miles away. I went through two interviews and a presentation. I also was given a buddy who I had met at the job fair and I shared many similar experiences with. The day concluded with being taken out to lunch with other applicants and their buddys. I was also generously compensated for travel.Interview Questions
