This is a great company to work for. It is privately owned, family run and the culture reflects that. The employees are treated very well with great benefits, events and a strong wellness program. I read the other reviews for the company, and I will say they are very disappointing to see - especially when it comes to change/growth. I am not in a management position. I've worked for many good companies, very professional ones, and this one ranks among the best. They do take surveys for employee input each year - I can't speak for every department, but in mine and the one we work closest with - improvement is very important to those managers. They encourage us to help them improve by keeping them accountable. Positive changes don't always happen quickly, but I can see them taking shape as time goes by. Another area that is consistently improving is process and sustainability. There is a Continuous Improvement program that is employee led - we are rewarded for suggestions we make to improved safety, wellness, efficiency, sustainability and more. I haven't worked for a company that has been this focused on making change happen. Many people are what we call "Lifers" - people who have been with the company for decades. This company will do right by you, if you work hard, and well within a team. I find my job challenging, I love what I do here. It is very hard to find jobs in my field that compensate well in the area we're located in.
Of course there are challenges -- or it wouldn't be called work! Some people can be difficult to work with because of pride or other things, but that is everywhere. Some people do step on you on their way up, but again, that's everywhere. If you do what is right, and are professional, I don't believe these things will hinder your success at Playworld. Leadership in some areas of the company needs reworked, but I can foresee that improving. Career advancement can be hard, because many promotions are often lateral, but I've seen new positions created for advancement opportunities. Someone mentioned "they don't care if you have a college degree" - that is not true. Management sets the open position ads with requirements - usually BA's in the office. What I will say is this - experience can surpass degrees, and I think too much emphasis is put on having one in many companies these days.
Advice to Management
I recommend looking into flexibility with hours scheduled, not all hours work well for every department. Some departments allow a bit of telecommuting, which is very efficient. Budget/spending could be tightened up for travel/entertainment/food expenses - maybe put a limit on it? Overall, I think management is doing an awesome job, as it relates to my department.
