Pure Storage – Why Work For Us?

Help shape a disruptive product.

We’ve been called the “Flash Whisperers” because of our deep knowledge in flash memory and its application to enterprise storage. Because we can make flash do things that others can’t. The result: we’re building a storage array unlike any that’s been built before.

Help shape a disruptive product

Pure talent. No egos.

We hire people whose talents place them in the top of their disciplines. But we also insist that the team comes first – Pure employees “check their egos at the door” to foster a collaborative, egalitarian and fun workplace.

Competitive salaries, benefits, meaningful equity.

Downtown Mountain View

Competitive salaries, benefits, meaningful equity.

You want to have a great experience at work, do something meaningful, but you care about other things too. Pure offers an outstanding set of benefits, including medical, life, vision, 401K, FSA/HSA, and equity in the company. Sometimes going to a start-up means losing benefits that larger companies offer, but with Pure the benefits package is competitive and the equity-based earning potential is superior.

I have been working at Pure Storage full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Smart, hardworking colleagues that make time to answer questions have helped me grow immensely as a software engineer. An atmosphere of progress instead of blame - the question when things go wrong is "How do we fix it?" rather than "Who did this?". Plenty of interesting projects and room for growth, though I caution anyone unfamiliar with enterprise software: projects take a lot more time when you can't release a hacky version, customer trust is valued incredibly highly here.

Great teams across all functions of the company make me proud to work here - Sales does not lie to customers, Marketing shows honest numbers, and Ops has not faltered one bit in the face of meteoric growth.

    Cons

You have to work hard. Work-life balance is hard during crunch times - they don't happen often, but I do wind up sacrificing some of my personal life to get the job done. It's software, nothing new here.

We don't change teams/projects as often as before.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Watch out that we don't lower the bar in hiring people (though you're already aware of this).

Receive a online test about 1 hour. There are two coding questions and several multiple choices questions. All the questions are easy questions about fundamental knowledge of Computer Science. But if you don't learn all the fundamental courses of CS but only know some programming knowledge, you won't succeed in the online test.

Flash storage has revolutionized everything from smart phones and mobile computers, to web searches and social media. Unfortunately, it’s been nearly impossible to deploy flash across a data center without breaking the bank. Pure Storage has cracked the code and destroyed the disk status quo. We made all-flash storage affordable enough to use broadly across any enterprise. We... More
