I worked at Ramapo College of New Jersey part-time (more than 3 years)

I received a housing stipend and meal plan when I worked for Ramapo College college as a student. I received great training and was confident in my ability to perform well as an RA with the college. student staff receive great support from supervisors and other departments that we work closely with (CSI, Student affairs, Public safety, etc...). Strong set of values and expectations that help you build identity capital and an administrative skill set that will serve you after college.

There are very few cons that I experienced as a student employee of the college. Occasionally I would disagree with certain aspects of presentations held by other departments during staff training, but it's a liberal arts institution so these types of characters are expected to be present in some departments.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make sure your grad assistants are comparable with campus culture before you hire them. Some of the grad assistants I interacted with over my 3 years had trouble assimilating to Ramapo life.

At Ramapo College I walked into the conference room where the interview was held. I was told to sit at the end of a very long conference table. Odd thing was, the five people on the search committee sat at the other end of the table. Each person asked one generic question. Then they asked me if I had any questions. I asked one, and then they said thanks for coming, so i stood up and left. It was unprofessional, especially since they were working in a career center.
