It's a great opportunity to spend time becoming adept at planning and executing experiments. There is access to high quality equipment relevant to the semiconductor industry, such that interesting devices and/or materials can be studied.

The academics are somewhat vocational focusing breadth over depth. This is very helpful for those who want a Master's degree and to transition right into working, but leaves a lack of depth for those looking to go deeper into PhD level work. That being said I have seen PhD candidates execute high quality work at this school.

Met advisor who needed work I was qualified for. We met one on one and he facilitated the applicaiton process. Standard college application procedure. Additionally one needs to pass a written exam to advance to the PhD level. This is standard at graduate schools. Here the test is difficult in the sense that they cover a large breadth, but don't go very deep. Which makes studying tricky as its largely memorization, and not a great metric of what makes a good researcher in my opinion.
