Resource Data, Inc.
Our goal is to build a great consulting company that produces high-value results for our clients. We strive for a long-term, stable workforce, with company ownership shared among many senior employees. While we offer our employees flexible options to suit their individual needs, we expect them to continue improving their skills.
We serve clients in the regions and communities in which we live. And since our staff is local, we’ll be there for as long as you need us.
Technology without direction is just bells and whistles. We define success as more than just finding a technical solution—it’s identifying, understanding, and solving the right problem with the right tools for the job. It’s exceeding our client’s expectations within schedule and budget.

Anchorage, the largest city in Alaska, is also home to the largest branch of Resource Data, which only makes sense since it’s where we got our start. Since 1986, we’ve been providing high-quality consulting services to a wide range of industries in both the public and private sectors and for hundreds of clients.
Our office is located in Midtown, close to good restaurants and convenient for clients and employees. Anchorage has excellent recreational opportunities during all seasons, and we take advantage of them. During the winter you can join the Resource Data hockey team, try your hand at curling, go for a ski, or ride your fat-tire bike. In summer, try out the miles of biking and hiking trails in Chugach State Park. Fishing, hiking, camping, or enjoying local events—there are plenty of options for all tastes.
The Boise branch was our first venture outside the state of Alaska, and we couldn’t have picked a better place. Lots of recreational opportunities, great people, and a thriving tech culture make it perfect for a company like Resource Data.
Our work in Boise represents the breadth of clients we’re able to serve as well as the technical horsepower we bring to our projects. We’ve successfully completed projects for state and local government, utilities, and local businesses. Our solutions have included complex database design, robust web application development, and innovative GIS implementations.
Fairbanks, known as the Golden Heart City and located in the center of Alaska, has the amenities of a small city without losing that tight-knit community feel. We love being part of the Fairbanks life and all that it offers—warm summers, startlingly beautiful winters, a major research university, challenging geography, exciting cultural events, and a wonderful mix of all kinds of people. We’re always up for new challenges!
We highly value the ability to learn and to work well in a team, both within our branch and with employees from other branches. Our team-based approach extends to the relationship with our clients, and we’ve completed projects for a wide range of local clients in areas such as energy efficiency, wildlife management, and education. We look forward to tackling new frontiers with our growing team.
The Houston branch enjoys a business casual environment with a commitment to professionalism our clients have come to expect. Our project teams tackle big projects, often working side by side with clients at their location. Despite that, the branch has a strong sense of team spirit and enjoys spending time together during the work week and at off-hour events.
The office is strategically located near Houston’s Energy Corridor, and we have a list of successful energy sector projects. Some of our expertise includes pipeline planning, data management, and emergency response, but we can also leverage our diverse corporate resume for other industries in the Houston area. We’re building for the long haul and want to provide Houston clients with the very best in custom software and GIS solutions.
Juneau provides a majestic backdrop to the capital of Alaska. Since 1998, the Juneau branch has built long-term relationships with many State agencies and within the community. Our office is right downtown, and it isn’t unusual for us to just walk to our meetings with clients.
When not working, we explore beautiful Southeast Alaska. With access to the water just minutes from your home, there’s plenty of opportunity for boating and fishing. Juneau residents have the comfort of a small community while still enjoying lots of options for recreational opportunities and cultural events.
In the beginning of 2013, Resource Data opened this branch in what is known as the beautiful Twin Cities of Minnesota. We’re looking forward to bringing our deep corporate resume of experience to the market and building long-term partnerships with local businesses and public sector entities.
Minneapolis brings a massive diversity of opportunity—all of the recreational opportunities those who live in the Midwest love, professional sports, and lots and lots of lakes.
Founded in 2011, the Portland branch has grown rapidly as we’ve welcomed employees from several other branches. Our work has spanned industries such as engineering, manufacturing, public sector, and fisheries management. Our projects represent an even balance of enterprise GIS development and custom software development.
Portlanders embrace the non-driving lifestyle, and we’re no exception: many of us use alternative transportation to get to work. We love this City of Roses we call home and the rich diversity it offers. Our goal here is simple: build a thriving branch through happy employees and satisfied clients.

Although they are experiencing some turnover right now, they are trying to improve things. If your contract comes to an end, you don't have to worry about losing your job. That is huge. They treat their people as adults and they do not micromanage. If you work, you will do well. If plan to coast and goof-off, don't bother applying - you won't last. "Work/life balance" is not just a saying - they really mean it. (But there are time you have to works nights and weekends. Just suck it up - you are a professional.)
Opportunities can be a little limited. Benefits could also be better, but many companies are in the same situation.
Advice to Management
Just because you are doing well does not mean you can now slack off. Good management is not a destination but a journey. Continue your journey, you are on track.
Getting an Interview
Getting an Interview
- No OfferPositive ExperienceDifficult Interview
I applied online. The process took 2 weeks – interviewed at Resource Data Inc (Anchorage, AK).
Incredibly speedy process compared to some of the other companies I have interviewed with. Submitted my application Thursday and had an interview on following Tuesday. On the following Friday after my first interview I received an email about setting up a technical interview for the following Tuesday. In less than 2-3 weeks I had established contact and had 2 interviews. The technical was pretty challenging for me. The interviewer came up with a great hypothetical scenario in which I took the lead to write the pseudo code on the white board to flesh out the basic premise of how to solve the scenario. It caught me a little off guard in that the scenario was much different than anything I have done at UAA in the MIS program. Even with my lack of a complete vision/direction to come up with a solution, the interviewers were great and patient in directing me and not letting me feel inept and useless, as I slowly pieced together the code with their assistance. Overall, great experience even though my inexperience and current skill set is not what they are currently looking for.
