Very exciting - I worked in various capacities in HR and in the stores and had a fun time. They have fantastic employees, and the services that they provide are excellent. I had the opportunity to provide training at stores throughout Wisconsin, and therefore was able to spend time with a great number of their employees.
When Roundy's supermarkets forced the independent owners to sell or they would stop providing groceries, it caused a lot of bad feelings with the employees, many of whom are lifetime workers. They changed the focus of the business from providing excellent customer service to making money. They slashed hours on the front end (cashiers, baggers, etc.) and then complained when customer service suffered. It is a constant battle between them wanting to make more money, and not being able to cut anything else from the stores.
Advice to Management
The employees that work for the company as a whole are wonderful. They need to be recognized as the valuable resource that they truly are. I had experiences calling the corporate office for assistance, and was yelled at because they didn't have time for me - that is unacceptable. When you treat your employees that way, that's how they treat customers because they believe the behavior is acceptable. Lead by example!

I applied online. The process took 1 day – interviewed at Roundy's Supermarkets (Madison, WI) in April 2015.
Phone interview and in-person where I was asked many of the same questions over the phone as well as in person. The store manager as well as an Human Resources person interviewed me a total of three times with the Human Resources person conducting two of the three interviews and the store manager conducting the other.
