I have been working at Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust full-time (More than a year)RecommendsNeutral OutlookRecommendsNeutral Outlook
The facilities of the hospital (including a good AMT coffee shop and an M&S) and it's location (close to central Reading) make this a pleasant place to work. The medical and nursing staff are all hard working and there is a good camaraderie present.
Constant issues include missing notes (making doing the job extremely difficult and potentially unsafe), some worn out facilities and difficult parking. Waiting to leave work for 30 mins to get out of the carpark at the end of the day isn't much fun.
Advice to Management
- Fix the issues with notes going missing. The end result of what might happen when patients are treated without notes will cost you a lot more. - More engagement with front line staff - I never see management, they don't come to our departmental meetings, they don't seem to have a forum for listening to the staff. This divorced style of management is a mistake and a lot of the problems in the trust could be improved by increased engagement. This is not simply by sending out emails where the CEO is referred to by her first name (deeply unprofessional in my view) - Further efforts to establish a hospital identity to make staff feel valued. This would come from management engagement by making the frontline staff feel connected to the overall goals of the trust. This isn't a case of buzzwords at induction but keeping the staff informed about what the current goals and issues are.
