People are great, very bright, and love what they do. The culture is very distributed and can be remote-centric at times, people there are passionate about education and the company vision is continually communicated. Work-life balance has never been an issue for me. During my employment, SBO has never hesitated to give me whatever tools or training necessary to complete the job.
Constantly working remotely can make things a bit hard to communicate. During my stay there was a bit of uncertainty as every few months a random person went poof (fired). There also seemed to be a weird tension between lower and upper management.
Advice to Management
Actively manage your subordinates--get to know them, their aspirations, and what they're struggling with at the job. You're there to serve them, not the other way around. Don't be laissez faire and clearly communicate expectations.
