    Pros

Santa fe has progressive leadership and a great student population and many attractions like a great arts programs, sustainability awareness, beautiful campus and a great city to work in. Its student population is quite diverse and usually very well mannered. The sports programs are also top notch.

    Cons

Many students arrive with poor academic ability based on poor academic standards in Florida. Adjunct professors are paid poorly.

    Advice to Management

Revamp your hiring policy to look for more creative cutting edge teaching talent and not middle of the road professors that have little to offer in terms of leadership and inspiration.

    Interview

Like many Santa Fe College adjuncts, I came in through personal connections with current faculty and administrators. For me, the interview process was efficient, courteous, and somewhat pro forma because my academic credentials and professional references were solid. Adjunct hiring at SFC is sometimes necessarily a hasty process, but the HR department is fairly good at helping you make sure all your ducks are in a row and the hiring paperwork load is moderate given the lack of benefits for adjuncts. For me, the hiring process reflected the college's commitment to being a learning community--most folks actively help new hires to learn the administrative ropes during and after hiring.

    Interview Questions

    • There were no notably difficult or unexpected questions during my hiring process. I did find the required fingerprinting somewhat offensive on both political and personal/subjective grounds. The college lost at least one good adjunct because of that rule.   Answer Question
