This was, for me, a great way to supplement my income from my full-time job on nights and weekends. As a research associate, you're calling random people to complete research surveys. The company provides paid training, and it's not rocket science -- you are basically reading from a script and taking notes about what people say and what they do. The hours are usually consistent and you can really supplement your income if you work during the day. Also, you make your own schedule based on the shifts that are available, so you can choose the days and times you want to work. Right about the time I left because I was able to scale back and cut out this job, they were doing a lot of small incentives for consistent performance or for doing good work -- gift cards, "bonus hours", etc. Also, fellow staff, and many of the managers, are generally very friendly and great colleagues.
Not for the feint of heart. As you can imagine, many folks think you are a telemarketer and people will hang up on you. While the hours are consistent, the rate of pay is pretty low, generally speaking. While this was a great way to supplement my full-time income, there's no way I could do this without working during the day. Also, while you are definitely appreciated if you do well, and there are sometimes incentives to reward folks for being consistent and doing work, there is no real career path or way to climb the corporate ladder, as far as I could see. It's basically a solid part-time job, but not much more.
Advice to Management
It would be great to show those who are part-time but talented a pathway to a career, as an alternative to treating all employees the same. Keep those incentives coming, and make them more substantial for the more talented employees.

I was hired about 12 years ago, so then, the hiring process was different. Now you apply online, wait for a call from hr. a few preliminary questions by phone before you are scheduled for a 3 day training class where you must pass a spelling, reading and writing test. you are allowed to miss three words ( usually they are , RESPONDENT,STATISTICAL, and I can't remember the last one, If you pass the class & the tests, you are hired.
no negotiating of salary. It is what it is. $8.50 per hr to start, after x amount of hrs , $9 after x amount more $9.50
