    I worked at Sheraton part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

    As a server at Sheraton, you're expected to learn on the fly and have the opportunity to additional responsibilities. This allows first-time employees to gain experience not only as servers, but develops time-management skills, the ability to work under stress, and how to conduct yourself in a professional environment.

    When it came to scheduling, this particular location had relatively flexible scheduling. Never did I feel overworked or that I wasn't getting enough hours.

    Cons

    While there is a lot to be said to learning on the fly, at times I felt unprepared to answer questions relating to other departments of the hotel. I didn't even see the inside of one of the rooms until my second year working when I volunteered for a room-service shift. Thus, while you do get to start right away with your responsibilities, don't expect to build connections with higher level management because chances are you won't ever meet them (aside from their roving patrols).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    May want to consider offering all new-hires an optional 1-day crash course in all the different business units of the hotel and the roles of each. This would prevent those "uhhhhh..." moments when guests ask questions of servers they aren't prepared to answer.

    Interview with HR. Questions were straight forward. Mainly ask you why you were interested in this particular department and why you think you will do a good job at it. They will ask you about your previous experience and having work experience will help secure a place.
