Slalom Consulting – Why Work For Us?

What makes us unique?

Slalom Consulting brings business and technology expertise together to help companies drive enterprise performance, accelerate innovation, enhance the customer experience, and increase employee productivity.

We are the consulting firm with a national network of local offices. Slalom consultants are locally-based, handpicked experts that form a national community delivering powerful technology and business innovations.

How does it work?
Every Slalom consultant can reach out to other Slalom experts who are ready to help–from across the hall to other Slalom offices, and through national specialized teams. Through this model, we share knowledge, ideas, and tools to solve client challenges and help develop our future products and services.

How did this start?
We invented it. While there are many local national consulting firms, we pioneered the national network of local offices model.

Our clients like us. We work with interesting and diverse clients, from global leaders to emerging companies, who are doing amazing things. We help them innovate and take advantage of new opportunities. We are flexible, easy to work with, and focused on solving problems—not selling.

Slalom believes everyone can win. Fulfilled employees thrive personally and professionally. Satisfied clients and partners spread the word. The company grows and invests in people, technology, and services.

People love working here

Founded in 2001, Slalom has rapidly grown to more than 1,300 consultants across 11 North American offices. Slalom is a great place to grow and learn personally and professionally, celebrating hard work and success together through events for the whole company and our families. We are consistently rated by national publications as one of the best consulting firms to work for.

Slalom consultants choose their own career paths. From training and mentorship to career development tools and sabbaticals, we give our people choices that enable them to take on new challenges with the autonomy to make the right choices for their clients.

Our talent works alongside some of the best and brightest in the industry, on the most strategic initiatives for Fortune 1000 companies. Our local model allows consultants to build long-term relationships with world-class companies in their own communities, eliminating unwanted travel and providing the possibility to innovate, seize opportunities, and build their expertise in exciting new practice areas. As a private company, we answer to only two constituencies: our clients, and ourselves.

If this sounds like a place where you would thrive, we would love to hear from you – recruiting@slalom.com.

WORKING FOR A BETTER WORLD

Slalom has repeatedly earned recognition not only for consulting excellence, but also for our community involvement. We believe that life is more fulfilling when you give back.

We live and work in the same communities as our clients, fostering a local connection. We also strengthen our communities through volunteering, service, and by supporting charities and people who are committed to making a positive impact.

Every year Slalom sponsors–and our consultants participate, help organize, and even create–charity events and fundraising activities through each one of our office locations. As an organization, and as individuals, Slalom is committed to the communities where we work and live, and making a positive impact on the world.

Great people, not vetting the managers for alignment to core values will be their downfall

    Pros

    * People - People tend to be outgoing, inclusive, and willing to help.
    * Work/Life Balance - The earned PTO and Sabbatical for Consultants allows for impromptu mental health days and planned vacations.
    * Access to Leadership - The owners of the company do respond to emails and will send unsolicited emails to consultants to congratulate them on articles or newsletters the consultant posted.
    * High Profile projects - Slalom is getting more and more access to high-profile, challenging, and interesting projects.

    Cons

Managers that don't believe/follow core company values - Some upper management only consider their career and profit, not how much they are working their teams in order for them to be profitable.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Vet your managers. Listen to the feedback of the team, especially of team members that have requested to leave that team. Make sure the people you are promoting are promoting the company's core values and not just focusing on their personal profit and upward movement.

    Interview Details

The interview process was quite long but they like to keep interviews on the more relaxed side. I started out by having coffee with one of the recruiters, who went over my work history, desire to leave and skills. Having passed that, I had lunch with someone fairly senior in my practice area about 3 weeks later. After that, another 2-3 weeks passed and I was called into the office for an interview with the practice area lead I would be working under. During this interview, I went into detail about my past projects and skills. Finally, I was called in to speak with the Managing Director of the office for a final yes/no.

The interview process is aimed to make you feel more at ease and comfortable talking to your interviewers.
