    Pros

STScI is full of talented, smart astronomers and professionals. They've done excellent work ensuring that astronomical data can be used by anyone. There are multiple projects to get involved with, and you can essentially design your own career. They do a good job at promoting work/life balance and allowing flexible working schedules. Great benefits, and an excellent cafe on the lower level.

    Cons

The personnel are so focused on astronomy that it can be difficult to have a conversation about anything else. Some of the long-term staff have very narrow views of the world and inflate the importance of their work. Turnover for permanent employees is low, so the internal politics tend to be intense and bitter. STScI is also a bit confused about its identity. Some want it to be a leading facility for pure astronomy research, some want it to provide engineering support for missions. There's also currently a shortage of office space. The location in Baltimore is not great - there's not much in walking distance from the office.

Applied online with my CV and cover letter. I got through to a phone interview, and it went well, but then I waited three months for a response from them
