    I worked at Sparkpr full-time

The best thing about Spark is the team — while many people have come and gone, the office remains remarkably free of politics and personal issues. I also appreciate the company's willingness to let employees work from home or on alternate schedules. Spark's recent acquisition of a digital agency gives the company a very rosy future in getting higher-level clients.

I think the company can be too fixated on spreadsheet balances than some of the larger issues. Everything is tied to an employee's ability to be billable, which can result in stress and lack of focus. I also think the company could do better at promoting lower-level employees to a long-term career path. The gulf between a rank-and-file employee and a director is a large one. The transition from small agency to a larger one has had some snags in scaling company policies.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The focus on billability hurts the ability for employees to do their best work, as too much of their focus is spent on numbers and timesheets instead of the projects at hand. I also think that in a fast-paced industry like PR, evaluations need to be done more often than once a year.

The process took about four months from start to finish. I was able to meet with the New York team twice, plus have a phone interview with two account managers in the San Francisco office. Spark has asked for two media references in addition to my three professional references.
