  • Pretty decent place overall, a few areas could really use improvement though.

With a only a few exceptions, the restaurant has an awesome management team and staff who are helpful, reliable and fun to work with. Co-workers are genuinely friendly with one another and discord among co-workers is rare and short-lived.

Lower level managers lack communication skills and are not given proper guidance to develop successful management skills. Management provides no formal training to new employees and does not actively supervise, take part in or evaluate training of new servers. Results in inconsistency and less efficient operations.

    Advice to Management

Require training to develop and improve communication for managers. Clearly define and communicate operating policies and procedures require adherence.

I applied in-person. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Specialty Restaurant Group (Tampa, FL) in October 2008.

The interview was fast and easy, quick. Knowledge of wine and food and previous experience discussed. There is a family culture at this restaurant with much higher than average lengths of employment. Friendly if you prove yourself.

Specialty Restaurant Group (SRG) operates about 10 casual dining restaurants under the banners American Café and Silver Spoon. The eateries offer a variety of regional favorites, such as barbecue ribs and Cajun-style dishes, as well as sandwiches, burgers, and steak. The company was formed in 2000 when CEO and former Ruby Tuesday executive James CarMichael led a buyout of American Café and Tia's Tex-Mex (sold in 2004) from Ruby Tuesday. SRG filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in 2007.
