Current Employee - Operations Intern in Cincinnati, OH

I have been working at Speedway LLC as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Speedway really does have a lot of opportunity for growth. With the recent acquisition of Hess the potential is exponential. I know a store manager who started out as CSR and moved her way though the ranks to Store Manager in only a year and a half.
-Raises are based on performance, so if your committed than rewards will come your way
-Internship opportunities! I reccomend getting into it if you are in college and pursueing a business-related degree. They will give you operations experience learning management functions as well experience in a Recruiting Center. It really gives you good experience that has helped me grow. I landed a position with Speedway upon my graduation so it will pay off as long as you work hard.
    - Benefits are offered and are pretty decent, including 401-K, 2 days off a week ( for management and Recruiters), floating holidays, vacation time (after a year spent with the company)
    - Overall positive work environment and friendly staff because the Recruiters really strive to hire people that are friendly, outgoing, and positive

    Cons

The job is not easy--> don't expect to come in not work hard because you will not last
-Managers do not point out the good enough to their employees but will point out the negatives a little to often. (Upper managment this goes to you as well)
-Sometimes management has to cover a shift and will be working at the store for near a whole day
    - High Turnover (however this can depend on particular manager and the way they treat their people)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It really depends on the manager. Some managers are fantastic to work with, are great leaders, and create a positive environment to work in. However, as with any company- there are some managers who don't do a good enough job of creating a fun, positive work enviornment and they wonder why the turnover is high. So my advice to those managers is to focus on treating their people better and developing/motivating them as a good manager should.
