Our History

Spherion: A Pioneer in Staffing & Workforce Management

In 1946, Leroy Dettman capitalized on an emerging demand for contingent labor by creating City Car Unloaders. Opening its doors in Chicago, Illinois, Dettman founded the business with the vision to “connect the right employee with the right business at the right time.” He began by helping local Chicago companies find temporary help in loading and unloading freight shipments. Realizing the potential value across all industries, Dettman expanded the business beyond light industrial staffing to provide local companies with clerical and administrative office support, quickly becoming a powerful force in the newly established staffing industry. 

In the succeeding years, the company broadened its expertise in supporting clients with a wider range of skill sets, adding professional positions that have come to include technology, finance, accounting, marketing, law, engineering, manufacturing, sales and human resources.

    I applied online. The process took 1 dayinterviewed at Spherion (Elkhart, IN) in July 2015.

    Interview

    The pre-interview work was simple and easy, however the interview was a little more aggravating. As soon as it was noted that I needed to have the Sabbath Day off, I was automatically dismissed. She quickly became passive-aggressive and refused to even finish the interview, because of my religious belief limitations. All I needed was 1 day off per week, but she refused to even attempt to accommodate that. This is what the government refers to as "religious discrimination in the workplace", and I'll be contacting the EEOC in regards to this. Apparently only atheists can work for this company.
