St. John Fisher College is a Catholic liberal arts institution. The school offers approximately 30 academic majors in the humanities, social sciences, sciences, business, and nursing, as well as 10 pre-professional programs, a dozen graduate programs, and two doctoral programs. Its enrollment includes more than 2,500 full-time and about 200 part time undergraduate students. St. John Fisher College was founded in 1948 as a Catholic college for men (it became coeducational in 1971) and is guided by the educational philosophy of the Congregation of St. Basil.
