I worked at State of Montana as an intern (more than a year)

    Pros

The people were great, environment and work/life balance was easy to manage, it worked out very well with my undergraduate research. We often went out after work and had coffee or a beer and discussed the different workings around the firm.

    Cons

State salaries are less than desirable, typical federal government bureaucracy, not a whole lot of flexibility with the senior HR reps. Office is in a great location but the building needs renovation for security, health, and work comfort reasons. Often had to battle with the elements when it shouldn't have been necessary.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look into the Major Crimes Unit of the State Public Defenders office and give them some love. We do great things for the state that are very important to the legal process. It is not always an easy job defending criminals but its a necessary social institution that is required for democracy.

    Application Details

I applied online. The process took 2 weeksinterviewed at State of Montana in October 2014.

    Interview Details

A short face to face interview consisting of a small panel. Consisted of three supervisors who clearly did not get along well. They asked inappropriate personal questions regarding age and commented on the failings of current employees who were of opposite gender.
