I have been working at Steel Dynamics (more than 5 years)

Entrepreneurial spirit reigns here which means autonomy. Each division has the authority to run like an independent company. The plant managers and their teams are encouraged to solve their problems as they need to. Hiring is done at the local plant and the managers don't have to wait on bureaucrats at corporate. It's refreshing. The focus has been on promoting from within which is encouraging.

The down side of autonomy is that we run into inconsistencies in policy. Also, communication is a real weakness. We don't always know of career openings throughout the company. Although, it is getting better.
