I chose to work at SugarCRM because of the people, the product and "word on the street". I didn't know boo about SugarCRM, until Carrie contacted me for a phone interview. Quickly I researched as much as possible and was impressed with the message, the product reviews, the executive backgrounds and the stability of the company.  In my three months here I have not been disappointed with my decision to work at Sugar. A few things that consistently impress me are the women here. Everywhere you look there is a female who is exceptionally smart, driven and funny. At Sugar you work hard, but it feels right. It feels as if we are all working to the same goal. The culture fits my personality and working with such an amazing cast of people, drives me to do my best because everyone around me is doing so.

    I have been working at SugarCRM full-time for more than 5 years


    Very fair and responsive to remote employees, I have never come away from a review unhappy, I have changed departments several times and that always went well and I have gotten raises at acceptable intervals over the years.

    Brings remote employees to HQ fairly regularly
    Great training offerings
    I am sure there are problems with politics at times but no more than any other company it's size.
    I have seen many promoted from within


    Its not the same company it was 7 years ago, some of the coolness of the culture has worn off, but thats to be expected. Many people who were these when I started are gone, and new people bring new culture.
    Work/Life balance can get tilted at times
    Seemingly frequent Sales team reorgs, always hate to see those emails

    Being a remote employee at any company can be a lonely experience at times, no worse here but you do hear about the movies and free food and activities often and sort of wish you were there.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    You know what, I didnt like when John left and Larry took over, and I hate hearing about the reorgs in Sales that seem to come frequently. But you know what? We are cash flow positive, 7.0 is out the door and its a 10 year old company now. Some tinkering under the hood had to happen to get there. So I say keep going.

    Application Details

    I applied through an employee referral. The process took 5 days - interviewed at SugarCRM in February 2013.

    Interview Details

    Series of interviews with top executives.
    The interviews were about 30 minutes each. It can be a bit of a whirlwind, but it's good to get multiple perspectives of how the role interacts with multiple departments, etc.
    The HR department is very helpful and communicates effectively across the entire process.

    • Asked about how I;d specifically target a market I had not previously spent much time addressing. Caused me to think out of the box, on the spot.   Answer Question
    Negotiation Details
    I started as a contractor, there was some confusion as I was actually brought on at a rate less than negotiated (the HR rep I worked with left the company during the process so I think there was some confusion there); but I was quickly hired full time which gave me full benefits and more than made up for the gap in hourly untaxed rate. (Probably saved me a big tax bill in the long run!)
