    Pros

The company tries to do things well, great colleagues to work with, opportunities to travel to various countries. Most products are competitive in the marketplace, but some should not be marketed - the competition is far ahead.

    Cons

Management sometimes seems to be in over their head, doing things for the sake of doing something. Give employees opportunities to move to different product lines, company locations.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Develop longer term thinking, institute proactive strategies rather than wait for something bad then always in a reactive mode. Use the knowledge of marketplace (sales reps, distributors, sales people) to help determine the direction of new product development rather than the opinionated calculations and justification of MBAs.

    Interview Details

2 HR phone screens, one Sales Mgr. phone interview, peer phone call, in-person interview. The in-person interview was what turned me off from this company - the Sales Mgr. seemed very lazy and the impression I came away with is he would not help me grow professionally, nor would he care to. He also seemed to be looking for someone that dreamed to work at TSI since they were a toddler - kind of delusional considering about 1 in a million people have ever heard of TSI. No answer for the career path question whatsoever. If you are looking to sell smoke detectors to a fire chief in the middle of nowhere, USA, with no chance at career development or advancement, this is the place for you. I withdrew myself from consideration.

TSI is no stranger to a good test. Founded in 1961 as Thermo-Systems Inc., TSI makes sensors and instruments used in a wide range of environmental safety and quality control applications. The company's products monitor air quality, temperature, and humidity in working environments; measure pollution conditions; detect gases and analyze gas pressure and temperature; and measure the flow rate of liquids. After an extended negotiation that started with a failed 1999 takeover bid, the company was acquired and taken private in 2000 by JJF Group, a private investment vehicle... More
