Over two centuries ago, a small medicine shop was opened in Doshomachi, Osaka, Japan to provide medicines to local merchants and doctors. Takeda Development Center Americas (TDC Americas) was established in 2004 and its 600 employees are responsible for Takeda's clinical research and development in the U.S. and for supporting clinical and product development activity for TPUSA. Takeda California is our Center for Excellence in drug discovery. Here we leverage technical strength in structure-based drug design, biologics, and gene expression analysis to efficiently generate potential new medicines. The Company is located in San Diego, a premiere biotechnology community.
Scientists at Takeda California invented a product in our metabolic therapeutic area that is approved in multiple countries for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. They have also advanced multiple preclinical programs for the treatment of diabetes, obesity, cancer, and various immune and CNS disorders. Our California site also hosts Takeda's proprietary bacTRAP technology, which provides a molecular atlas of gene expression with unprecedented cellular resolution to enable the discovery of new drug targets with selective mechanisms of action.
