    Life as a student worker

Current Employee - Student Worker in Austin, TX
Current Employee - Student Worker in Austin, TX

I have been working at The Art Institute of Austin part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

As a tutor I was able to easily maintain the quality of my own school work while helping my peers when they came in for a visit. Tutors and other student worker areas have a work load that allow us to have time for our own work once we've finished our duties.

    Cons

Office hours are killer. On days when we have to sub because there is no student worker coverage we have no time at all for anything but office work and we are consistently pulled in several directions at once. There is also a tremendous amount of trust placed upon us when working the office given the type of information and situations we come in contact with.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Students who are hired on to work in the office should be paid more than the other areas. There is a significant difference in the amount of work, responsibility, and trust placed on these workers.

I applied online – interviewed at The Art Institute of Austin.

    Interview Details

Very detailed explanation of structure and job duties. Had to return several time and was kept waiting for hours. Listened to the interviewed talk more than talked myself. They are most concerned with candidates who will not challenge the process.
