Good place to work where you gain a lot of experience, but can be hard to connect with people.

I worked at The Richard Group (less than an year)

    Pros

You get to meet so many different people and the place is pretty diverse. As an intern you get to sit with people from many different departments and so if you're really into the field, asking them questions and learning will come naturally. Some of the traditions are pretty cool too like the chili cookoff and Stan is pretty friendly. The place is demanding but it's worth the experience you get as an intern. If anything, the knowledge you gain is the best part of TRG.

    Cons

It can be pretty hard at times to connect with people at the agency on a personal level. I'm one to be very social and believe have a great personality. Meeting people and engaging with them comes pretty naturally to me but it can be hard when teammates don't try to engage back. I'm not sure if they're in that mind set of 'oh he/she will be gone in a few months anyway, no point in getting to know him/her' or if they're just not as engaging as others. The whole thing with signing in by 8:29:59 is a pain with Dallas traffic but I guess it's understandable somewhat.

Also, I think those who an intern would be working with should be directly trained on how to do that. A lot of times I was just thrown into the woods or things were explained to me as if I should already know it. I think mentors sometimes forget that interns haven't been there to know everything about a client/process.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I think most importantly TRG should train people and designate specific people to be intern mentors who know how to work with interns productively. This way you're also picking people who are engaging and helpful and so we're not stuck with someone who's hard to talk to.
