Total Wine & More is America‘s Wine Superstore®—the country‘s largest independent retailer of fine wine. We started in 1991 when brothers David and Robert Trone opened two wine stores in Delaware. We currently operate over 100 superstores across 15 states and are growing rapidly.

This differentiates us from many retailers in the United States who specialize in one geographic area or price category. Our typical store carries more than 8,000 different wines from every wine-producing region in the world.

In addition to a world-class selection of fine wines, the typical Total Wine & More also carries more than 2,500 beers, from America‘s most popular beers to hard-to-find microbrews and imports, and more than 3,000 different spirits from every price range and category.

Total Wine & More is committed to having the lowest prices on wine, spirits and beer every day. Our tremendous buying power and special relationships with producers, importers, and wholesalers offers us considerable savings, which we pass on to our customers.

Our strength is our people. We have over 2,000 associates, including 600 wine professionals, who must demonstrate comprehensive wine knowledge before they are invited to join our team. After coming on board, all of our wine team members undergo an extensive initial training program, participate in weekly team wine tastings, attend monthly wine-producer seminars, and many travel to prestigious winegrowing regions on company-sponsored trips.

We believe that an educated consumer is our best customer. We want to demystify the wine-buying experience for our customers so they will feel confident in choosing the bottle of wine that is perfect for them.

    I have been working at Total Wine & More full-time (More than a year)


    The best thing about Total Wine is their commitment to education. The company prides itself on the most knowledgable team in the market and strives to pass that information on to consumers.


    There are a few downsides to working for Total Wine. First, all leadership must work a required 50 hours a week. They get by paying lower hourly rates by paying management 10 hours of overtime a week. This results in poor work-life balance and is the main cause of their high turnover rates among management.

    Advice to Management

    Raise salaries slightly and allow your managers and leaders in the stores to see their families a little bit more.

    I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at Total Wine & More (Potomac, MD).


    The entire interview process was two-part. The first interview was in-person and was with a Total Wine and More HR recruiter. It was a little over an hour. Questions were asked about my interest in different business-units. The second interview was with the specific business unit manager. It was also in-person and relatively painless.
