I worked at Tyson Foods as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

Relaxed atmosphere, training was very hands on with emphasis on communication. Leadership was open and honest when it came to performance review and did not micromanage.

    Cons

Sometimes things were a bit unorganized because of the informal atmosphere. I was there for the Tyson acquisition of HIllshire Brands, so there was a lot of speculation around who was moving and who was not and I think the communication and organization in this area could have been better

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

At a company like Tyson, especially working on the product development side there are a lot of moving parts so I think educating business units on what they are working on is important. Employees should be more well rounded.

Think of Tyson Foods as a 600-pound chicken with a bullish attitude. One of the largest US chicken producers, Tyson's Fresh Meats division makes it a giant in the beef and pork sectors as well. In addition to fresh meats, the company offers value-added processed and pre-cooked meats, and refrigerated and frozen prepared foods. Its chicken operations are vertically integrated -- the company hatches the eggs, supplies contract growers with the chicks and feed, and brings them back for processing when ready. Tyson processes 42 million chickens, 390,000 pigs, and 144,000 head... More
