Access to two good research fusion experiments (JET and MAST) and respective research teams. JET side much more vibrant when JET in operation. MAST more subdued but still exciting. Some interesting upgrades on both machines. Good springboard to ITER for young physicists.
Management style is the main drawback - it is secretive and non-inclusive. In general, people are entrenched and it feels more like a branch of Whitehall rather than of Silicon Valley. The divisions between MAST and JET for UK staff are still visible. If you are ambitious and want to shine, this is probably not for you...
