Current Employee - RN Staff Nurse in Chapel Hill, NC

I have been working at UNC Chapel Hill full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Pay is better than nearby hospitals. The hospital has a great float pool of nurses and can normally help out our unit if we're short staffed. They have rapid response nurses who are so helpful even if you just want a second pair of eyes on a patient that is making you nervous. Shift differential pay is very high. I feel very supported as a nurse by the hospital and managers.

    Cons

Parking is definitely an issue. I have to pay over $200 a year and park three miles away to be shuttled in for day shift. The bus I take leaves at 6:15 am and it is very crowded. This makes for a long day when I'm already working a 12 hour shift.

    Application Details

I applied online – interviewed at UNC Chapel Hill in October 2014.

    Interview Details

I applied online. I received a call after 3 weeks. I had a phone interview. One week later I had an onsite interview. I interviewed with two teams of 3 people for about one hour each. The questions were behaviorally based. The director lost interest and made it know by her comments towards the end. Seemed like she wanted a lay down and take it type person. Too headstrong you won't make it in.
