    Application Details

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 4+ weeks - interviewed at United States House of Representatives in February 2014.

    Interview Details

This particular congressional office hired interns on a rolling basis, so after submitting a cover letter and resume, I waited a couple months for a spot to open up. After an internship position opened up, I scheduled an interview, and met with some staffers. They asked me about my personal background, and were particularly interested in my political background and experience with campaign volunteering. They asked about my schooling, but only general questions, like what my major was, and my future plans on transferring. They never asked about my GPA or units or what classes I'd taken. They were also interested to hear how I would handle an angry or belligerent constituent, and what I would do to answer their questions and calm them down. Being a strong communicator and having exceptional political acumen are emphasized. The interview was very easy, and they offered me an internship later that week, which I accepted.
