Former Employee - Researcher in Orono, ME

I worked at University of Maine System full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

I worked with intelligent, motivated, positive out-of-the box type people who were also rigorous academics. My principal investigator led me to new lines of research I never would have considered.

    Cons

The system they work for tries it's best to follow the rules and push you to do the same (almost no "out of the box" thinking in the higher levels of the organization. They pay extremely little for excellent work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

When people under you come to you with ideas (especially those on the research side), listen to them. You're slowly becoming irrelevant.
