  • Great people - leanly staffed

    I worked at VTech Communications

Great people. The company is staffed leanly, so there's the opportunity to building up a wealth of experience in multiple areas. You have to wear many hats and work on cross-functional teams, but that keeps things interesting. Management has to trust its employees to get the job done because there just aren't a lot of bodies -- which leads to greater autonomy. And the company pays you what you are worth.

The industry itself. Selling landline telephones to retailers isn't the most exciting endeavor. However, there are certainly challenges that require creative thinking, and the company affords you the opportunity to solve such problems.

    Advice to Management

Continue the open dialogue with employees regarding the financial well-being of the company. And don't refer to the layoffs that occurred in 2006 as a "re-engineering." The company has long since overcome that difficult time period, but the employees remember, and don't like the use of that word.

    Easy Interview

I applied online. The process took 3 weeksinterviewed at VTech Communications (Portland, OR) in December 2013.

Applications/resumes submitted through the company's website. First step is a phone screen, followed by meeting the hiring manager. After that is supposed to be meeting the group VP and the rest of the team.

    Interview Questions

    • In a roughly 60 minute meeting, I was asked only two questions, both of which were easy, clarifying general info about my background. The interviewer did 95% of the talking, and the few times I had an opportunity to address issues (because I seized the chance), I was never asked to elaborate. The interviewer took no notes.   Answer Question
