We compete for talent and for business in a highly competitive environment, so our cash compensation and benefits are commensurate with our goal of attracting and retaining a high-performing crew.

There are three major elements to our total compensation package: base salary, the Partnership program, and the opportunity for crew members in select job levels to receive bonuses. Each component is explained below.

Base salary

The base salary sets the foundation on which our compensation package is built. The base salary you receive when you're hired will be highly competitive with the compensation offered in the marketplace for equivalent positions. This ensures we remain an employer of choice for the best talent.


Partnership is how all crew members share in the success of the company. It's an annual cash payment based on the previous three years' business results. Partnership is unique to Vanguard and has been paid every year since the program began in 1984. The program reinforces a collective interest in the company's long-term success—a meaningful portion of your compensation depends on overall company performance. You qualify for your first Partnership payment in the year following your date of hire.


Crew members in select job levels are eligible for an annual bonus based on personal performance. Bonuses recognize distinctive contributions to the company and are typically paid in December.


Best-in-class health care coverage, a generous retirement and savings plan, and life insurance are all part of the Total Rewards package you'll receive as a crew member—along with your compensation, work-life offerings, and conveniences. Our Total Rewards package is a big reason Vanguard is an employer of choice.

Medical and prescription

Our FlexCare coverage allows you to select from two medical plans. Each plan includes prescription drug coverage.


Choose from two dental options offered through Delta Dental—a Standard plan or an Enhanced plan.


The optional FlexCare vision plan provides coverage for two pairs of corrective glasses, two pairs of contact lenses, or one pair of each annually.

Flexible spending accounts

You may elect to participate in a health care flexible spending account (FSA), which allows you to set aside pre-tax money for your out-of-pocket health expenses, or a dependent care FSA, which allows you to set aside pre-tax money for day care or other dependent-related expenses.

Paid time off

Your paid time off is yours to use in any way you choose—for vacation, for short-term illness, or for personal reasons.

Life insurance and survivor benefits

Vanguard offers life insurance coverage equal to two times your direct pay, as well as an equal amount of accidental death and dismemberment coverage. It's provided to crew members at no cost. You can also choose to increase this coverage through supplemental life insurance. Coverage is available to spouses and dependents as well.

Onsite health clinic and fitness center

Use Vanguard's Wellness Center to stay healthy. You can visit CrewCare, our onsite health clinic, or ShipShape, our state-of-the-art fitness center.

Academic assistance

If you wish to continue your education while working full-time at Vanguard, our Academic Assistance Plan can help pay the cost. It provides up to $9,000 reimbursement per year for tuition and books for eligible graduate and undergraduate courses at accredited institutions.

Retirement and savings plan

The Vanguard Retirement and Savings Plan allows you to invest a portion of your income in Vanguard funds, building your 401(k). We also match a portion of your contribution.

Leave of absence

Vanguard is ready to help if you require a leave of absence from work for personal reasons.

Legal services

Optional coverage through Hyatt Legal Plans can help you, your spouse, and your children with personal legal services.

    Listen to crew and pay attention to exit interviews. Why do crew always feel understaffed? Why does turnover increase after bonus and partnership?     I applied online – interviewed at Vanguard.

    Interview Details

    Two part interview. First part is a 30 minute phone interview and the second is a four hour on-site interview. The phone interview focuses on qualifications and resume. The onsite interview is split into four hour long parts. Two presentations about the company, an hour long behavioral based interview and a case study/role play.

    Interview Questions
    • Very important to show empathy during role play. For the behavioral based interview make sure to answer using the STAR method. One question that threw me off was "Explain a recent event in the news pertaining to finance and how it would affect business at Vanguard"   Answer Question
