Verenium – Why Work For Us?

Verenium, a pioneer of 21st Century Bioscience, is working to transform Industries.Verenium taps the vast genetic reservoir of bacteria and fungi — nature’s most abundant resource — to create high-performance industrial enzyme solutions.

Verenium Corporation is a recognized pioneer in the development and commercialization of high-performance enzymes for use in industrial processes. Verenium sells enzymes developed using its unique R&D capabilities to a global market. The company harnesses the power of nature and, leveraging unique, patented technology, creates products that maximize efficiency while improving environmental performance.

More than ever, a growing number of organizations are focused on developing ‘greener’ processes and products. Corporate social responsibility and fierce global competition encourage industry leaders to seek greater efficiency and higher performance. Industries are looking to improve process economics in an environmentally sustainable way. Verenium has assembled all the capabilities and expertise needed to create eco-sensitive, enzymatic bioprocesses that replace inefficient, often harsh chemical processes. Enzymes are not just the future of industry, they are transforming industries and responding to market demands today.
Using proprietary and patented genomic technologies, Verenium extracts microbial DNA directly from collected samples to avoid the slow and often impossible task of growing microbes in the lab. We then mine this huge collection of microbial genes, numbering in the billions, using high-throughput screening technologies designed to identify unique enzymes as product candidates. These are then optimized for commercial use through Verenium’s patented DirectEvolution  technology. By combining discovery and laboratory evolution technologies, Verenium has successfully developed and commercialized cutting-edge products for use in industrial processes.

Verenium has a lot of bacteria and fungus, but it's really a good thing. The company utilizes microbial DNA to manufacture enzymes for use in animal health and nutrition, grain processing, oilseed processing, and other emerging markets such as oilfield services, pulp and paper, and textiles. It markets nine commercial brands of enzyme products, either independently or with partners. Verenium sold its cellulosic ethanol business in 2010 to BP for $98 million. Going forward, the company is focused on its core business: developing specialty enzyme products to convert ... More
