I have been working at Virginia Transformer Corp. full-time

    Pros

I am a former employee who recently came back & I came back for a few reasons. First, to be a part of a growing international business. The Company has consistently grown at a rate greater than 20% annually. Operations have recently expanded with the opening of a new, additional manufacturing facility. The organization has positioned itself strategically in numerous markets globally providing continual, new business opportunities. Secondly, job security and to be challenged professionally. Due to the robust growth, employees at VTC have no worry of layoffs, downsizings or closings/relocations. And, for those type of people, who desire a challenge, set high goals and aren’t afraid of the hard work needed to meet and exceed those high expectations, VTC provides that type of atmosphere with a highly talented, diverse, results driven group of people. Lastly, would be those people and I wanted to reestablish those working relationships with them. VTC is very fortunate to have so many dedicated, dependable, whatever it takes to get the job done employees and I feel very fortunate to be a part of them again.

    Cons

In pursuit of achievement of those goals and to meet that growth, there will be growing pains and the parking is one. Due to the large number of increased staff members and manufacturing associates, parking is definitely at a premium.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Build upon the current momentum of increasing the employee morale initiative by continuing the work needed to keep improving the work environment and increasing employee satisfaction.

    Industrial Engineer Interview

    Application Details

I applied in-person. The process took 3 weeksinterviewed at Virginia Transformer Corp..

    Interview Details

The interview process started off as if they were confused about where I would fit. I met with HR through an open house and indicated that I was interested in working in operations. The first person I met with was the technical manager who after reviewing my resume in front of me for what appeared to be the first time he looked at it, proceeded to talk to HR and ended that part of the interview.
I was then interview by a team of four people. The questions were typical with one interviewer who seemed to be testing me more than trying to learn my personal style, which was clear since after I answered one of his questions he told me that was the correct answer (which I already knew).

    Interview Questions
    • All of the questions were fairly standard. There were many questions where they asked to tell me about a time when you demonstrated this skill. Often I felt like I had already demonstrated that in a previous example, but came up with another example that fit just as well.   Answer Question
    Reasons for Declining

It was a low ball offer with no benifits. This is a company that brags about being an engineering company that manufactures, but they have minimal interest in engineering their manufacturing process. They have recently stated that they want to attract top talent in a new paper article, but this offer was clearly the opposite of that.
