Benefits like health insurance and retirement options are available, time off during certain holidays allows for family time.

Dealing with the bureaucracy of a public school district can be challenging especially when school board members have their "own" agenda in mind.

I applied online. The process took 4+ weeksinterviewed at Volusia County Schools (Daytona Beach, FL) in June 2014.

It was a joke, the administration I interviewed with saw that I had ten years experience, and they literally foamed at the mouth to take me in for a job. They immediately was filling out the paperwork to take me in. When I applied for previous teaching jobs, they would drill you rapid fire with a panel of teachers/administrators. At Volusia County they just glanced at my resume and talked about opportunities.

There was no negotiation. You signed a "Letter of Intent" saying you will be working for them in August. You go to a "first year teacher training" (which was the biggest waste of my time considering I have been in the field for 10 plus years). At the first year teacher training you REALLY find out how they bamboozled you into procuring a job. You find out that you are making 36,000 and you have to send out tedious work verification forms to send to old employers. Then you find out they don't honor your masters degree or years of teaching! I seen about 50 teachers defect to Seminole, Flagler, Orange Counties during the first hour of the first year teacher training!
