  • As a project manager, great for getting immersed into different parts of market research, but put in time and hard work

I worked at WB&A Market Research

From top management to associates, it has a great office environment and friendly, caring employees. Small company also gives a great connection to all employees in the company, and makes it feel like more of a family and you always know where to go for things. If you are in project management, you get to work in a great variety of market research methodologies and all components of the market research process (questionnaire development all the way to report analsysis). The promote from within, and make sure you get good exposure and experience before promoting you to the next level. At the same time, they want you to get as experienced as fast as you can, which leads to quick promotions. Other great things: healthcare coverage is good, free bagels on Wednesdays, food is purchased regularly (monthly?) for the office, you get your own office, and dress is casual.

You have to put in a good amount of time on some days. While the work comes in waves, there will be times where you will need to stay late for consecutive days to catch up -- but it's just the nature of the client business and holding yourselves to clients' deadlines. Some of the clients that you'll work work are demanding (but some are good!). Salary seems to be lower than industry average too --especially when not on the client side (i.e., if you work for a research department within a larger corporation), which seems to have caused project managers to look elsewhere after 4 or 5 years.

The interview process was standard for a market research firm. After a callback or email, you will be scheduled for an in person interview with the WBA team. Duration of the interview is about an hour or so. You may be asked to provide samples of your past work (including survey creation, cross tabulations, SPSS/SAS experience, projects that prove you can translate data to a cohesive story, etc).

During your panel interview, they will ask you about your background, times where you had to overcome challenges, what are your weakness, and a behavioral question. With a quick google search, you can find many interview questions to help you prepare for this type interview. Fairly easy task.

The only issue I had with this company, is it seemed rather group-think-ish and monolithic. Knowing I didn't fit this culture, I asked *in person* for a follow up on the pros/cons of my interview. That would of help me *elsewhere*. I sensed they weren't going to call me back (talk about awkward body language from them) and they even agreed with a hand shake. Long story short, they lie about it. I think that's a warning sign on the type of employees in this company. Just a thought.
