A great deal of responsibility and trust is given to those that are willing to accept it. This approach allows ambitious junior staff to advance according to their own ability and ambition.
Training of the junior staff is often left up to the junior staff. Those that are not self motivated will flounder in this environment.
Advice to Management
Take a closer look at those that are about to be Project Managers. Make sure they are fully aware of risk management theories and practices.

The process took 2+ months – interviewed at WJE Architects & Engineers.
After meeting two senior staff members at an engineering convention and expressing my interest in the work of WJE, the gentlemen immediately linked with me on LinkedIn and asked me to send them a resume and also apply for any open positions I'd be interested in pursuing. I was warned it's a long, slow process (slow hires = slow fires), and I was emailed approx. 4 weeks later with a request to interview with a particular office where my skills would fit best. After an enjoyable phone interview, I was flown to the office location for a full-day interview, several weeks later.
I met no less than six individuals for at least an hour each - at least one individual of each position level (Assoc. III, Senior Assoc., Assistant Principal, and Principal). Each person offered a completely different perspective, which I appreciated. I felt that I meshed well with every employee and could contribute immediately, and I was offered a position a week later. I had to fill out more background-check and pre-employment screenings, and the HR staff that coordinated those tasks were very helpful, as well. From initial contact through job offer took approximately 12 weeks.

The question showed that the interviewer was thoroughly aware of my background, appreciated that I must have considered the alternative, and wanted to be clear about why I chose to apply with WJE instead of the mentioned alternative.
