WellPoint is committed to being a responsible corporate citizen in the communities we serve.  One way in which we deliver on that commitment is through the WellPoint Foundation.   

The WellPoint Foundation is the philanthropic arm of WellPoint that promotes the organization's commitment to enhance the health and well-being of individuals and families in communities that WellPoint serves. The WellPoint Foundation celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2010. Since its establishment, the WellPoint Foundation and its affiliated foundations have awarded more than $122 million in local and national grants.

The WellPoint Foundation and affiliated foundations focus on initiatives that address the objectives of the Healthy Generations signature program. Healthy Generations is a multi-generational initiative that targets funding for programs serving all ages -- from unborn children to seniors. The goal is to improve the health of communities by focusing resources on nine key health care issues.

In addition to the work of the Foundation, each year WellPoint associates give generously to nonprofit organizations across the country through our Associate Giving Campaign. A 50 percent match from the WellPoint Foundation increases the impact of these gifts. During the 2010-2011 Campaign, associates nationwide pledged nearly $4 million to support six national health-related nonprofits and their local chapters. With the WellPoint Foundation match, that total will be raised to almost $6 million.

Other initiatives associates participate in include the annual Healthy Helpings Food Drive which supports food banks across the country.  In the past four years, WellPoint associates have collected approximately 73,000 pounds of food for local food banks in over 40 locations. 

Associates also have the opportunity to roll-up their sleeves and help nonprofit partners across the country on the company’s annual Community Service Day.  Since its inception in 2008, thousands of associates and their families and friends have participated in this event.
