Former Employee - Finish Fiberglasser/Detailer/Painter in Port Angeles, WA

I worked at Westport Yachts full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Points of rapid growth, a lot of opportunity to acquiring basic and advanced skills in a number of manufacturing departments. Options for many different disciplines, and company bonuses. Supplied with $300 worth of equipment when hired, and a supply of vast amount of tools and materials at your disposal (though you're expected to purchase $250+ of tools in the following year). The ability to build a very magnificent yacht!

    Cons

Unstable boat market, slightly low pay for type of work, fiberglass (not always), heights might be an issue for some, tight spacing for others, hot and sweaty, some times cold, PPE (personal protection equipment) required (depend on project or environment): chem-suit, dust-suit, dust-mask, full & half face-masks, nitrite gloves etc... This jobs requires you handling many different toxic chemicals.

    Application Details

I applied in-person. The process took 1 week - interviewed at Westport Yachts.

    Interview Details

Arrange an interview over the phone when they accepted my application and resume. Met with a Lead and a Supervisor of the department I applied for, a basic question were ask about background, good and bad skills, took on a tour, then told I would receive a call in the following days and thanked. The call came 2 days later, I was hired, and need to only go get a physical exam and a drug test, then attend a 8 hour (payed) company introduction. The second day to work you will then go and working with your chosen department.
