I worked at Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Smaller size, and separate administration from MIT keeps the red-tape to a minimum. Staff are excellent, and help researchers get on with their research, rather than provide roadblocks.

    Cons

Because the average labs size are very large. Each tends to keep to itself and are somewhat insular, for example all sitting at lunch together. Little encouragement to talk and interact with other lab members.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Promote more inter-lab dialog.

I applied through other source. The process took 4+ weeksinterviewed at Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research in April 2009.

    Interview Details

I did not have an interview at Whitehead, but they are all very typical for postdocs in academia. You give a talk about previous research, you meet with prospective principal investigator, and with each member of the lab. You might have a second meeting with the principal investigator, and maybe taken out for dinner.
