I have been working at Wilsons The Leather Experts full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    I absolutely love the brand!
Coming from a women's boutique that sold apparel, I had some adjusting to do but I managed to do so because of the wonderful team that was able to train and guide me in the right direction.
We are mostly able to run the store how we want (with the exception of the s.o.p) and make business decisions that positively affect our store.
My store Manager expects us to run the store like its our own business and make decisions based of current trends using the department sales report.
We have weekend competitions with the team, monthly store dinners or events, and holiday potlucks.
You learn alot about different types of leather, sales techniques, and clientieling.
The company appreciates your hard work and recognizes it through contests, a bonus program, and promotion.
The customers are a pleasure to work with.
Amazing discount and is mostly combinable with in store offers. Different brands within the store as well.

    Cons

Often a lack of payroll which may leave you working alone for a few hours.
Quite frequent sale changes and marketing changes.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep up the upbeat spirit of the company and continue to reward and provide growth for your employees. Looking forward to the opportunities ahead.

    Application Details

I applied through an employee referral – interviewed at Wilsons The Leather Experts in May 2014.

    Interview Details

I was referred by a current employee that I previously worked with. I filled out the application and turned in my resume to the Store Manager which immediately scheduled me for an interview. The interview was very engaging and explained the responsibilities of the position I applied for, also the kind of leader the store manager was looking for. A few days later I was contacted by the District manager for an interview. I met with her in store and this too was a great experience in which the DM was looking to get to know my style and work ethic along with past experiences. I was then called back by the store manager with an offer.

    Interview Questions
    • Describe a time where you had a conflict with another peer at work and what you did to handle the situation.   Answer Question
    Negotiation Details
With no past management experience, I believe I was offered a fair hourly wage and no negotiation was needed.

PreVu (formerly Wilsons The Leather Experts) was more than willing to slip you some skin. The company was once a leading leather retailer in the US, selling men's and women's outerwear, apparel, and accessories under the M. Julian, Maxima, Pelle Studio, Tannery West, and Wilsons Leather brands, among others. In mid 2008, as part of a rebranding effort, the company sold its brand, its online operations, and more than 115 outlet stores to G-III Apparel Group for $22 million. It also changed its name to PreVu. Shortly afterward, the company began liquidating its remaining... More
