I have been working at Xavier University of Louisiana. full-time (More than 3 years)RecommendsNeutral OutlookRecommendsNeutral Outlook
The compensation is fair, the colleagues are kind, and the leadership is not overly political. People are generally happy to be here and it shows. Staff appreciation is shown through pay raises when possible. Decent retirement plan and good benefits. Most staff employees work normal hours - 8-5, M-F. No evenings or weekends.
Less leave time than other higher ed institutions - 10 vacation days/year for employees here less than 5 years, and you have to use 4 of them (or leave without pay) during the Christmas break when the university is closed and you don't have the option to work. Not much room for growth of mid and lower-level employees - promotions are rare.
Advice to Management
Consider not making employees use vacation time with the university is closed. Consider more cross-training so that ambitious employees can continue to grow and learn.
