I have been working at 170 Systems

    Pros

My peers are excellent. They are intelligent and very professional. The only good thing about working in the Professional Services department is the opportunity to work with such wonderful consultants who are just brilliant.

    Cons

    - Weak Management
    - Unnecessary power play by mid-level managers
    - Mistreatment of consultants by mid-level managers
    - Senior management not addressing the issues
    - Double standards
    - Not very many opportunities for growth even for the brilliant consultants

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to the employees because you have a great bunch of resources in your team before it's too late. Take action on mid-level manager(s) who are not good leaders and are a source for unpleasant and unprofessional work environment. Reduce the hierarchial barriers and honestly implement the open-door policy instead of talking about it in theory.

170 Systems is a great place to work and I am proud to be an employee of theirs!

I have been working at 170 Systems

    Pros

The atmosphere is great, the commute is easy, the job is inspiring, you lead your own projects but work closely with other, a great mix of senior and junior developers, an all around great place to work

    Cons

Although they've made great strides these past couple years, they are still Oracle centric and need to move toward the SAP mentality that is thriving in Europe.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Rethink the value of pursuing certain projects over others because the end result may not be as financially beneficial as originally conceived.

    Not Bad

    I worked at 170 Systems

    Pros

    Great consultants
    Great knowledge sharing in consulting
    Strong benefits
    Fun social gatherings (pre-buyout)

As stated in the other reviews. Many of the people in the consulting group are extremely professional and willing to assist others.

    Cons

High expectations in terms of hours working on projects
Mid-level management (many of them - but not all) without any management skills or training
    Double standards
    No 3rd party training opportunities

The mid-level management team has very little management training. Management publicly made jokes about the fact that they do a poor job handling performance reviews in a timely fashion. Any communication with R&D and support is extremely difficult.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

They should send the project management and solution architecture team to management training.
