Pros
friendly, fun, and exciting environment. great place to interact with a variety of personalities and good people.
Cons
inconsistent hours do to budget. very inexperienced management team which are often confused of their own objectives.
Advice to Senior Management
There needs to be a better selection process and criteria for management in this company. Many of the managers are horrible leaders with no sense of direction both in their careers as well as in those of which they are responsible for leading. In some cases managers are moved to select fields with no prior knowledge or experience. However, it is a given that you can't have all the right people in all the right places all of the time. That being said, 24 Hour Fitness has a great mission statement and is heading in a good direction. It is a great place to work and grow especially for those whose personalities fit the mold.
Pros
The management team is very helpful.to new Pt's and they feed you clients.
Cons
The pay scale isn't up to par with other companies.
Pros
One of the best things about 24hr fitness is their benefits. Unique among places I've worked, you don't have to be non-exempt or full-time to get full benefits. You just need to be able to afford the (not terrible) premiums. 24HF hires a lot of part-timers in high school or just out of high-school, so that benefits arrangement is very nice.
Easy, fun job, but then again I was a graveyarder - literally the only qualifications needed is affability and the ability to stay awake.
Cons
Very high upper management turnover. Again, I was just graveyard so my knowledge of this stuff isn't complete, but 24HF has always seemed like something of an unstable company.
Probably my biggest complaint: their entire intranet is a gigantic, bureaucratic mess. Seems like they change check-in systems every 3 or 4 months, and the amount of red tape you need to slash through just to release liability is insane.
Advice to Senior Management
You could benefit from a measure of decentralization. As much as I'm sure you're concerned with brand unity, every club is different, has a different personality and a different approach.
Pros
You stay healthy while working with like minded individuals that care about their fitness and health. (some take it a little overboard)
You see a lot of clients, become comfortable with approaching individuals
You get a free membership, and somewhat of a discount
Cons
High pressure to always be better, I was Top Sales in the county one month, and the next month was slower, and was already being discplined for it.
There are some employees that will try to "steal" your clients, (AKA your money)
Managers first goal is meeting sales goal for their bonus, everything else comes second
Advice to Senior Management
It's a business and everyone gets their goals from corporate, but at least try to pretend like you somewhat care about your employees. It was obvious the whole time they did not care what you were doing, how you were doing it, as long there was $$$ at the end of the day. It sounds good, until you have people lying and cheating customers!
Pros
Open Schedule, rewarding work with clients
Cons
Poor management, lack of communication between sales divisions and customer service, constantly changing evaluation benchmarks
Advice to Senior Management
Picking a longterm plan and and staying on track for the long term goals will unify the workforce and improve productivity and sales growth.
Pros
If you love fitness, who wouldn't want to work at a place like 24. Everything was brand new in that gym so it was enjoyable while that lasted. Employees are usually friendly and energetic. Members usually were happy to see you and even brought gifts to you if you worked often enough. It was a happy place to work.
Cons
The internal training for managers seemed to be horrible. In fact, I don't think there is an actual training program in place. Very inexperienced managers that took time off whenever they felt like it at the gym I was at. They were always on their cell phones. Direct supervisor would always talk trash about the subordinates. Promotions were sometimes based on favoritism rather than merit and skills. The sales manager there was a complete jerk. Looked out for their own back rather than motivating for the good of the team.
Advice to Senior Management
Please put in a more extensive training program for managers. Don't hire managers that do not have any management experience. Please STOP playing favorites and really look at who's doing the work, has the personality and can actually lead, and who the members and guests turn to for problems. Please stop hiring managers that are onlly out for themselves and therefore cannot develop the team to actually benefit the company! I loved the environment, but leadership has got to step it up!
Pros
I enjoyed the friendships i made with members and employees.
Cons
management changes sometime over night, Then the way the club is run changes dramatically.
Pros
Super easy work, get to meet good people, free gym membership. Get to take advantage of being part of a growing company. young, hip environment.
Cons
downside is minimum wage pay, management is unorganized sometimes, job can get repetitive and boring. You also dont get as many hours.
Advice to Senior Management
Management just needs to stay more consistent and open to listening to their employees and what they want. Otherwise they are doing a great job of keeping things interesting with contests and such.
Pros
Felxable energetic positive over all good place to work for people who are in school and need a good place to work
Cons
Cleaning up the locker rooms and racking weights is very very tedious other thatn that its all good place to work
Pros
Working front desk is a great way to meet all kinds of people and learn how to positively communicate with others. The job is simple;check members in and respond in a cheerful manner using their names. We handle payments on accounts, change of member information, and sometimes signing up member among other things.
Cons
Members aren't always so easy to get along with. Sometimes it seems as though 90% of the people that enter the club have no common sense or manners. The majority of them are looking for hand outs and what ever they can get or free.
Advice to Senior Management
Give the employees a reason to want to come to work and be proud to share heir knowledge and help to others. There aren't many incentives or recognition when you do well but if you make a mistake, you know ASAP.
