    Pros

    Worked in a fast paced development group, very professional talented helpful technical team.

    Cons

    Management indecisive, both projects I was scheduled to work on were canceled a few months into them.

    I worked at 3Com full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    Software engineer pays well and most software engineers do not have to deal with the customers directly. Not every software engineer can do this, but good programmers can choose to freelance; they work at home, work on projects posted on the Internet, and get paid.

    Cons

    Many jobs require knowledge in very specific technologies, such as programming languages, operating systems, hardware, and databases, among other things.

    Here are some characteristics of company cultures that I liked most.

    I have been working at 3Com full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

    Interesting work, smart managers, good work life balance, good culture. Nice campus, good facilities. Good advancement opportunities.

    Cons

    Marketing had unrealistic announcements that were not fulfilled. Departments did not work well together. Goals were not aligned across departments.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Management was too aggressive. Needed to be more conservative. Long term goals were less important than quarterly earnings.

    Salary, benefits, and products for mid market + k-12

    Cons

    Management. They are complete buffoons from regional management up to and especially the Chairman of the Board

    HP will help, but they are known to pay well below the industry average

    Pros

    Compensation was very good and work-life balance was excellent. People enjoyed working there. Attitude was work together to turn company around, which happened.

    Cons

    Commute was long for many as Marlborough is in the Middle-west part of the state. Uncertainty about the company's future as acquision was always a possibility. It finally happened.

    The leadership is now all gone. Can't really offer them any advice. Bob Mao did a very good job during his tenure.

    Great team with boatloads of experience and talent in North America
    World class products that will compete anywhere
    Loyal, but small reseller following

    Cons

    Talent not utilized to the fullest
    Channel runs the show, like the tail wagging the dog.
    Too much of a not invented here mentality and keeping the "good old boys" around

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Utilize the assets in the NA team. Grow through organic sales and not depend on a channel that only wants to push boxes without concern for margin or growth.
