I have been working at 7-Eleven full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

weekly pay people interaction and same routine

    Cons

same routine no chance of promotions despite them always saying so.
very much the micro manage example of all stores

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

how about promoting one of your managers to cooperate just once so you will not have such a disconnect.

I have been working at 7-Eleven full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

9-5 schedule. Average pay. Company vehicle.

    Cons

Phone rings at all hours of the night. Live and die by the corporate rating metric. If influencing does not yield results with franchisees...you're job is in peril. Franchisees don't have to take your advice or follow corporate's advice. When they don't, it's you that feels the pain.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Dallas has no clue to the hiding, cheating, lying and corruption going on in the southwest division. Bribes to directors are commonplace for additional franchise licenses.

I have been working at 7-Eleven part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Discounted slurps. Smoke breaks. Close to home. Exciting to meet new people everyday and wait patiently for them to decide which scratch off ticket they want.

    Cons

Not free slurps. Too short smoke breaks. Pay isnt that great....would like to be a little more involved with decision making.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Free slurps...longer smoke breaks

    Pros

Very good place to work, and good opportunities for advancement

I worked at 7-Eleven for more than 5 years

    Pros

Worker are friendly to a point, management can be nice when want to.

    Cons

I think the title should give it away.
Management: Look up the definition of "Mental Abuse or Psychological abuse" and your understand.
Employes: Most of the employes are lazy and get away with it, but most them are workaholics and are let go.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If this store is still under the same management than there no advice to be given, because everything that wrong about this place has been allowed.

    Hectic, unrealistic goals

    I worked at 7-Eleven

    Pros

Learn a lot and interact with the local community. Basically act like an owner, in charge of the whole store for yourself.

    Cons

Was given a store with inexperienced staff. Assistant managers were non-existent. That means you are the only one responsible for 24/7 store, which means calls by incompetent staff at 2am asking for more quarters. Repeatably asked for the opportunity to train an assistant manager but wasn't paid attention to.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

the problem with opening a store every other second is that they only train a store manager every other day. Give your new stores the proper staff so not to set up managers for failure

    Cons

Lack of training, Vary little work life balance.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If your people bust their butts 5 out of 7 days of the week. Try to over look some of the little things so they can get a physical and mental rest.

I worked at 7-Eleven full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Depending on the manager the schedules pretty flexible, promotions can happen, but probably won't. Minimum wage starting, but what do you expect at a gas station.

    Cons

When the store is busy and you are by yourself customers can be very rude depending on the area. Corporate people set unrealistic goals for everything around the store. If you are good at ignoring rude people in general you should be fine.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

All I can say is, put two people on at all times. Working alone is probably the worst part of it and decreases morale more than anything else.

Since Joe DePinto took over as chairman of 7-Eleven, almost all franchisees make less money.

I worked at 7-Eleven full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

The customers are great. Most Field Consultants really try, but are hampered by senior management.

    Cons

The pay for franchisees are low and it only gets worst every year that you stay in the business. Sales since Joe DePinto took over have have stayed relatively flat (inflation adjusted) while expenses including labor have gone through the roof. Seattle has just passed a minimum wage at $15 an hour. We should see a lot of franchisees losing their stores in Seattle over the next several years. Remember, a lot of these stores are the life savings of the owners.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Joe DePinto has been the worst nightmare for franchisees since he has taken over. He hires ex-military yes man so that the only opinion that counts is his. If you disagree with him you are unfaithful to the company and will be fired. There has been close to 100% turnover of field personal and those that are still there hate the job. Any franchisee that has been in the system more than 2 years hates 7-Eleven and their job. My advice to Joe DePinto is to take Servant Leadership courses and really implement it instead of faking it.
